I intend to do a screenplay for my coursework with a narrative which portrays a conflict between two central characters. The basic story is two characters that are the human embodiment's of good and evil and the evil character is trying to corrupt the good character. Throughout the film the evil character will be tempting the good character to do bad things like smoking, drinking and stealing and will slowly corrupt the good character to becoming evil like them. The way I am going to show the good and bad characters is by having the good character dressed in all white and the bad character dressed in all black and I will show the corruption of the good character by the good character slowly wearing more darker clothes. The names of the characters are Evangeline and Malum. Explain how a deeper analysis of cinematography and/or aesthetics techniques can deepen a contextual understanding of your chosen films. The scene from City of God that I have chosen to analyse is the scene where Shaggy dies. This scene is also known as 'Man Down' . During this scene the cinematography conveys a physical 'barrier' between the two genders, which could also be a foreshadowing of what will happen to the two characters because the become separated through Shaggy's death. Before the couple get into the car Bernice runs in front of the car with her hands out which is one of multiple references to the iconic Rio landmark 'Christ the Redeemer' that are made throughout the film. The fact that she makes this pose could be because she thinks that her and Shaggy are going to get out of the favela and live a happy life by being 'redeemed', but later in the scene it is made clear that both of them will not be leaving the favela as Shaggy is gun
During this task, I chose to a short film with the genre horror about a brother and sister called Harrison and Georgia Grimm that find a trail of sweets in the forest and decide to follow it, when they reach the end of the trail Georgia dies. This short film was made to show that even if you think that you are safe you probably aren’t, and this is shown through the fact that up until the character Harrison actually saw the hooded figure, he thought he was safe following the trail of sweets that her finds. If I was to actually film this film, I would have used a low and high angle when Harrison first saw the sweets as to show Harrisons perspective of the sweets and to also show Harrison picking up the sweets from the sweet’s perspective. I also would have used a either a close-up or an extreme close up of Georgia’s face as she was being killed to show the true emotion on her face and I would have used a lot of two shots because the two siblings went on the journey together.
Harrison and Georgia Grimm didn't think that going on a walk through the woods with their mother would be anything but innocent... But they were wrong. Harrison thought, naively, that the candy he had found on the forest floor was for him and his sister. He didn't think there was anything sinister about it and even though Georgia was apprehensive she trusted her little brother to the ends of the Earth so she followed, what she didn't know yet is that this was a decision that would have fatal consequences. A-Level Film Studies Enrolment task What was your favourite film this summer 2018? (500 word ‘personal response’) The film that I enjoyed watching over the summer was the 2009 film ‘Coraline’, directed by Henry Selick and is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman. This film is one of my all-time favourite films because it was brought to life on screen using stop motion animation which gives the film a unique art style and adds to the creepy, unsettling atmosphere of the film. The first scene of the film could be classed as a flashback, and this scene portrays an unknown ‘entity’, with sewing needles for hands, deconstructing a plush doll and reforming it to have the appearance of the protagonist (Coraline Jones), which is unsettling to watch because the ‘entity’ remains faceless throughout the whole scene which makes you unsure of its true intentions with our protagonist. The film I am going to be analysing is the 2015 British documentary film, Amy, which is about the life and death of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse and is directed by Asif Kapadia. I am going to be analysing two key scenes from the film, one of the scenes is of Amy when she was around 14 at one of her friends birthday parties, and the other scene i am going to be analysing is when she was performing at a festival in Serbia and it is at this point in the film where the public can tell that something is wrong. In the first scene, Amy is around fourteen and is at the birthday party of one of her best friends and they are all having a joke together. This scene shows a different light to Amy and shows that she wasn't always what the media made her out to be towards the end of her life.
